I've got to repair my 03 ZL 600 engine, one cylinder will need a jug repaired and a piston, but the combustion chamber side of the head has all gouges and "pot" marks from when the piston let go. Is there any place that can machine it smooth? I guess they have to fill in these gouges first, before they machine it so I don't loose compression? Anyone else been down this road? Who does this kind of machine work?

Depends How bad it is. I have seen people run them like that if its not to bad. If you can I would throw up a picture for us. Most are going to say get a new one or get it fixed but I'm sure you could find a used one pretty cheap in good condition

Pelle 15's right. Although replacing the part would be ideal, it depends how bad the damage is. I've run with a "pitted" head before with no problems. A picture would help us advise. Good luck.
